Gina Mohammed is a research scientist, speaker, and writer, with a Ph.D. in Plant
Physiology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, and a B.Sc. in Biology from the University
of Toronto in Ontario. She has authored over a hundred scientific journal papers and published magazine
articles for the general public.
A popular speaker, Dr. Mohammed has presented seminars, workshops, lectures, and keynote addresses
to diverse audiences across North America. One of her favourite topics is Non-Timber Forest Products
(NTFPs) – the herbs, medicinals, foods, and household & aesthetic goods obtainable from the forest. She
was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and she has served in a variety of advisory roles
to government and industry. She is presently an advisor to the European Space Agency.
Gina and her husband now own and operate
P&M Technologies,
a science and information technology company in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. In her spare time,
Gina is a stained glass artisan who has designed hundreds of original pieces, including a unique collection of
northern wildflowers. She
also writes a series of on-line Christian devotionals called
SONbeamZ
for young teens and pre-teens.

Nathalie Gagné is a talented young Québec artist. She was only twelve years old
when she created the drawings for CATNIP and KEROSENE GRASS, yet she had already won prizes for some of
her other work. We commissioned her again for the drawings in Miracles & Mustard Seeds. Nathalie
lives with her family near Montreal.

Dan Pernokis has played with computers for more than 30 years as a systems &
applications programmer, systems analyst, network administrator, software instructor, and customer support
representative. He has written systems manuals and user guides, and he is co-author of the ANSI computer language standard for PL/B.
Dan's eclectic background is anchored by a bachelor's degree in earth sciences, with interests in astronomy, natural
science, and aviation & space. In addition, he has eight years' experience in professional broadcasting in Toronto and has done audio-visual production work. His favourite comic strip is Calvin & Hobbes.
Dan and his wife now run their own consulting company,
P&M Technologies,
where Dan has turned his talents to developing web sites and publishing books. (He did the image
processing and the layout & design work for CATNIP and KEROSENE GRASS, Miracles & Mustard Seeds,
and The Northern Wildflowers Collection of stained glass patterns on CD.)

Candlenut Tree, also known as the kukui – the official state tree of Hawaii – read about it in the book! The logo is a stylized kukui leaf.
