FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Popular English-Language Gift Book Now Available in the Netherlands

A popular North American gift book called "Catnip and Kerosene Grass - What Plants Teach Us About Life" (ISBN: 978-0-9731097-0-2) is now available at Boekhandel Van der Meer (Vuurtorenplein 10) in Noordwijk.  This latest book by Canadian research scientist Dr. Gina Mohammed is a collection of 100 inspirational reflections that draw upon scientific knowledge and anecdotal information about plants to encourage and challenge people in their everyday lives.  Shopkeeper Martha Baalbergen is excited about carrying this book and says that when the current batch is sold, she will be ordering more.  The book sells in Europe for 9,95 euros.

"Plants may hold secrets to making us better people," says Dr. Mohammed, who has studied the behaviour and physiology of plants for over 20 years.  "Common plants like algae, soybean, pine, coffee, and many others have unique properties that help them to thrive in tough environments.  And their success can help humans to overcome their own challenges."  Science is most meaningful when it relates to the everyday lives of people, she believes.  "In all the years I've studied plants, I've been most intrigued by what I can learn from them, not just about them – how plants react to stress, how they work together, and how they can establish themselves in unlikely places."

Gina Mohammed is a research scientist, speaker, and writer, with a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.  She has authored over a hundred scientific journal papers and published magazine articles for the general public.  A popular speaker, Dr. Mohammed has presented seminars, workshops, lectures, and keynote addresses to diverse audiences across North America and Europe.  She was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and she has served in a variety of advisory roles to government and industry.  She is presently consulting on a project with the European Space Agency at ESTEC in Noordwijk.
